Safety Seminar: Falsework Collapse Case Studies and Analysis

    Date & Time: 28 June 2013 (Friday) at 7:00 p.m.

Venue: CIC Construction Industry Resources Centre, 44 Tai Yip Street, Kowloon Bay, Kowloon (Exit A of MTR Kowloon Bay Station).

    Speaker:

Dr. Poon is an Associate Professor of the Department of Real Estate and Construction at The University of Hong Kong and an Honorary Professor of Yantai University in Shandong, China. He is Member of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers and Institution of Water and Environmental Management. He is also the Past Chairman of Safety Specialist Committee of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

He has been appointed as Expert Witness over 30 times in investigation of construction accidents and failures.  His main research interests include construction project management and falsework failures. In recent years his interest extends to design life of buildings, architectural management, history of construction and quarrying in Hong Kong.

    Abstract:

Falsework is a temporary structure supporting the permanent structure while the latter is not self supporting. Falsework collapses, causing delays and casualties, occur frequently due to procedural inadequacy.  This presentation will highlight the development of a procedural framework that can be used to assess the proneness to failure at different stages of falsework construction and even the cases of falsework collapse and identification of causes.

Attendance Certificate:  The seminar is free of charge and Attendance Certificate will be issued to members of SRSO upon completion of the seminar. If any non-members wish to obtain an attendance certificate, an administration charge of HK$100.00 would be applied whilst HK50.00 for HKFOSHA members.  No certificate will be issued to those who arrived after 7:30pm.
