    Dear Sirs / Madams,

To enhance the construction and work safety of truss-out bamboo scaffolds, the Labour Department (LD) has drawn up a “Guide on Construction and Work Safety of Truss-out Bamboo Scaffolds” (“Guide”) (Traditional Chinese webpage version only at this stage). The Guide consolidates the basic construction requirements of truss-out bamboo scaffolds and safety principles for carrying out relevant scaffolding work. Besides, the Guide also provides further safety requirements for erecting special truss-out bamboo scaffolds when common truss-out bamboo scaffolds cannot be used under special circumstances.  The Guide has been uploaded to LD’s website (https://www.labour.gov.hk/common/public/pdf/os/D/TOS_Guidance_notes_tc.pdf).

    2.                To enhance the promotion of safe lifting operations, LD has published an accident casebook, namely吊運工作意外個案集(“Casebook”) (Chinese version only). The Casebook analysed the causes of common accidents in lifting operations with practical safety measures recommended.  We hope that site management personnel and workers involved in lifting operations can learn a lesson to prevent similar accidents from happening. Meanwhile, we have introduced a specific module on “lifting operation safety” with quizzes in theOccupational Safety and Health e-Quiz on LD’s website (Traditional Chinese webpage version only).  For details, please browse through the following hyperlink (https://www.info.gov.hk/equiz/introduction.htm).

    3.                In addition, pursuant to Regulation 27 of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Electricity) Regulations, LD has updated and issued the notices in English and Chinese on the treatment of persons receiving electric shocks. The notice has been uploaded to LD’s website (https://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/public/os/E/ElectricShock.jpg).

    4.                The “latest OSH information” is now attached herewith for perusal. We would appreciate it if you could help widely disseminate the safety information in the email through your channels.

    5.                For the latest information on the services of LD and related promotional activities, please visit our website (https://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/news/highlights.php).   Should you have any enquiries, please feel free to contact the undersigned of the Occupational Safety and Health Branch of this department at 2852 4971.
