    - EVENT -

Health & Safety Seminar: The Amendments Bill and what it means for you

    10 AUGUST 2022

    Email banner image

The Hong Kong Government has for years viewed reform to the Hong Kong’s health and safety legislation as the solution to reducing industrial accidents, and has recently proposed the “Occupational Safety and Occupational Health Legislation (Miscellaneous) Amendments Bill 2022”.

The amendments include a great leap in penalties that both employers and employees could be sentenced to once convicted, empowering the court to order contractors to provide their financial information, which shall be considered by the courts in deciding the penalty.

Join us and our panellists in examining the risks inherent in the proposed amendments, and how you as contractors/developers/individuals can better prepare for the same.

The panel will be moderated by Pinsent Masons partner Alvin Ho, joined by Dr YY Wong (eminent occupational safety expert), Mr Nicholas Lau (barrister whose practice has a heavy bias towards safety and health issues), Mr George Chong (Assistant Contracts Director of China State Construction Engineering (HK) Limited), and Pinsent Masons Senior Associate (and OSH specialist) Hinson Cheung.

The panel will be followed by a cocktail reception and the launch of Pinsent Masons’ new publication – OSH legislation in Hong Kong – A Practical Guide 2022. With the launch of this new Guide, our market-leading health and safety team provides a detailed examination of the history and development of the OSH legislation, analysis on the case law dealing with key concepts relevant to OSH offences / defences and a comparison of Hong Kong and UK OSH legislative regimes. This is the first comprehensive review of the local H&S regime by a Hong Kong law firm and we are supported by our global knowledge at the back of our renowned UK health and safety team.

Please do stay behind to connect so that our health and safety team can get to know you better. It would be a fantastic opportunity for experiences and observations to be shared.

For those interested in attending, please sign up clicking the link below, seats are limited and will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

We look forward to seeing you on the 10 August.
