We are pleased to inform you that the Labour Department has recently completed a draft revision of the Code of Practice for Bamboo Scaffolding Safety and Code of Practice for Metal Scaffolding Safety (CoPs). Addenda which aim to review the fire retardant properties of the protective screen on the face of the scaffold and specify the materials requirements for the toe-boards are added to the CoPs as attached.

The Labour Department (“LD”) is highly concerned about the accidents and dangerous occurrences involving high-risk work processes that happened in workplaces. LD had issued the Systemic Safety Alert (“SSA”) of “Lifting Operation” in response to serious/ fatal work injuriesand dangerous occurrences happened before. Through the occupational safety and health practitioners, the SSA aims to provide employers/ proprietors with necessary advice and assistance in order to fulfill their safety responsibilities and safeguard the safety of relevant employees engaged in such works.
2. In response to the recent recurrence of similar accidents, a copy of the relevant SSA is enclosed in this email, so as to remind the relevant employers/ proprietors of the importance of following systemic safety precautionary measures to prevent recurrence of similar accidents/ dangerous occurrences. May the occupational safety and health practitioners please forward this message to the responsible persons of the relevant contractors.

Notice is hereby given that the 35th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Society of Registered Safety Officers (SRSO) will be held on Wednesday, 10 June 2026 at 7:00 pm in hybrid mode, either participate in person at Room QR 610, 6/F, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Hong Kong or virtually via Teams Meeting for the following purposes:
1. To confirm the Minutes of the 34th AGM.
2. To review and endorse the Annual report of the Executive Council for Session 2025/2026.
3. To review and endorse the Financial Report of the Society for Session 2025/2026.
4. To announce and approve the results of elected Executive Council Members of the Society for the 2026-2028 term.
Following our previous letter, we are pleased to announce that twelve (12) candidates have been nominated for the Executive Council Election for the 2026-2028 term. Since there are only 12 nominations, and the maximum number required for the new Executive Council has not been exceeded, a voting exercise will not be necessary. Systemic Safety Alert (Handling of Heavy Objects in Workplaces)
Following the release of the Development Bureau’s Technical Circular on the Adoption of Construction Robots in December 2025, the policy and requirements for the deployment of four types of Highly Effective Construction Robots (HECR) in capital works contracts have been formally set out. The HECR include:
Remote Control Tower Crane System
Drilling Robot
Welding Robot
Drone (for progress monitoring)
To facilitate the industry’s understanding of the available robotic solution, solution providers, and the practical applications of these construction robots, a series of four webinar sessions will be organised. Each session will feature technology providers offering solutions aligned with the above HECR Inventory. The webinars will be scheduled every Tuesday in May.
